Building Community Connections: VHS Hosts the McCall MacBain Foundation
May 27, 2024

Virtual High School was thrilled to host this year’s applicants for the McCall Huron County Scholarships!

Launched by John and Marcy McCall MacBain, the McCall Huron County Scholarships are designed to support students with strong character who demonstrate leadership potential and make positive contributions to their local communities. Recipients of the scholarship are awarded significant financial assistance for the costs associated with their selected college or university programs. Successful applicants must meet certain eligibility and selection criteria which target key areas, such as community involvement through volunteering or extracurricular activities and exemplary core values.
On February 22, 2024, we opened the doors of the VHS administrative office in Bayfield, Ontario to 22 eager high school students from surrounding communities to host the scholarship interview process. Now that the winners have been announced, we wish to congratulate the 2024 recipients of the McCall Huron County Scholarships and hope for their continued success in their post-secondary programs!
At VHS, we are proud to have our very own former McCall Huron County Scholarship recipient on staff! After winning the scholarship in high school, Sadie Collins earned her Honours Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biomedical science and minor in neuroscience from the University of Guelph. Now working as the VHS Department Head of Science and Health & Physical Education, Sadie is grateful for the assistance she received early on from the Foundation.
“Receiving the McCall Huron County Scholarship allowed me to focus on my education during my time at university and not how I was going to fund it. Over the years, the McCall MacBain Foundation’s support instilled confidence in me to seek out new opportunities in my school and surrounding community and to advocate for and believe in myself as a leader as I started working following graduation. The profound impact of the McCall Huron County Scholarship on my life will surely last a lifetime.” – Sadie Collins
Applications for 2025 will be open on September 17, 2024! Graduating high school students from Huron Country are encouraged to learn more about the scholarships here and apply.
