Embracing Change: Updating Our Grade 12 University Challenge and Change in Society Course

June 19, 2024

Virtual High School frequently takes on the challenge of updating courses. An important part of this revision process is reviewing feedback. We always appreciate hearing from our students!

As the world and students change, so too must our courses, and HSB4U is our latest course offering to be renewed and polished. Not only has the course content been updated and graphics recreated by our in-house team to ensure accessibility for all students, but the assessments have been reimagined and rewritten to allow for even greater variety and creativity. Some of the new assignments will have students presenting the opening speech in a debate, writing an expert report for court, and creating an infographic comparing the demographics of two countries.

Challenge and Change in Society is a course that considers social issues—both current and historical—through the lens of the three social sciences: anthropology, sociology, and psychology. By applying the theories and approaches of each discipline, students investigate not only the forces that create change in society and the global challenges we currently face, but also the individual’s place in this ever-changing world. Virtual High School has embraced the ideas of challenge and change and has updated and refreshed the course to ensure students are provided with the best possible learning experience.

With change comes opportunity, and Virtual High School embraces the opportunity to continually improve courses and, in doing so, prepare our students for the challenges they will face. With the recent updates to Challenge and Change in Society (HSB4U) students will be better prepared to understand the many factors that shape their world, and the challenges and opportunities that result.
