Unlocking Insights: Grade 12 University Mathematics for Data Management

We live in a world surrounded by data – in the news we read, in the social media we consume, and in our day-to-day conversations with friends, family, and professionals. Mathematics of Data Management, MDM4U, will give you the skills to sort through this data and to make informed, practical, and realistic decisions that you will be able to apply throughout your daily lives.

MDM4U focusses on the real-world decision-making process, from how to determine the different combinations of courses you could take during your post-secondary education, to determining the risk involved in day-to-day activities. The course achieves this through a project-based approach, featuring three overarching projects. These projects will introduce you to real-world techniques and processes used in the field of data and probability. You will complete a risk assessment to determine the risks involved in a real-world situation and how to deal with them, conduct a data study to determine the relationship involved in a real-world situation, and complete a simulated job as a freelance analyst to help a company investigate and plan for a real-world situation. You will work on these projects alongside the lessons so that you can apply what you are learning straight away in a practical manner.

The lessons throughout MDM4U are interactive and engaging, starting with a connection to the real-world to pique your interest in the topic. Any mathematical language used throughout the lesson is explained and translated into every-day speech so that you can fully understand what is being discussed. As you work through each lesson, you will encounter an abundance of interactives which help to demonstrate skills and allow you to self-assess your understanding of the lesson. You will also be able to work through numerous examples and exercises based on real-world situations that will allow you to practice your skills.
