Thus far in your experiences as a student, you’ve had great success! You’re ready for another phase in your educational journey, and as you continue to grow in your understanding, the concepts and ideas you encounter will become more interesting and, yes, more complex. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the work will be more difficult, but there will likely be more of it. To prepare you for what comes next, we present to you our NEW Grade 9 Learning Strategies (GLS1O) course, designed to help students manage their learning as they advance in high school and beyond!
The early lessons in the course deal with the topic of intelligence and the fact that each person can have a different type of intelligence. That is, all of us are good at different things, and we have unique styles of learning. That’s a good thing since the more diverse our abilities, the more opportunities there are for everyone to learn and develop new skills. Not only will you identify your unique learning styles, but you will also see how setting goals can help you determine your way forward. You’ll discover different techniques on how to manage stress and improve your skills in mind mapping, note-taking, and test preparation. You will learn how to manage your time so that you can effectively meet deadlines and hone your presentation skills in multimedia as you may be asked to create videos in your coursework. Lessons on refining your reading and writing skills will further prepare you for your studies in English and other subject areas.
As you move through the course, you’ll also explore how we interact with others in the creation of group projects, how we can easily resolve conflicts with other people, and how we can become our own best advocates in various situations. The final lessons in the course have you look to the future to investigate such topics as finding your own unique pathway though secondary school, thinking about employment, and investigating community resources (a topic often overlooked and underestimated by students). The course ends with a look at personal finance management to help students like you make plans to enter the workplace or attend college or university after high school graduation. This practical course enables you to prepare for what comes next in the classroom and in your everyday life as you focus on the present and plan for the future.

GraceStudentI think what I benefited the most from with VHS was working at my own speed. With VHS, I could spend a couple of extra days to understand what was being taught and have the one-on-one resources to help me if I need them.
GraciStudentThis school is excellent and I would 100% recommend. This is also a great way for people to get an OSSD diploma even if not located in Ontario or Canada.
YoavStudentMy son [has been] with VHS for the last 2 years as he spends lots of time traveling for golf tournaments, and they are the best you can find! Really well made with great contents and my son loves it! Such a nice way to combine his school and his passion for his sports! Thanks VHS!
EricParentThe most impressive point about the school is its support system … I feel they are willing to listen to and solve students' problems carefully and responsibly.
MunjungParentThe fact that I can get up every day and feel confident in my schoolwork and supported by my teachers is a great feeling.
SeraStudentLooking back, the quality of the content and the resources that this virtual school provides has been massively useful in my studies. They are an amazing example of a very rigorous online school with dedicated staff.
FrédériqueStudentI have used 3 separate online schools for my Grade 12 courses and the course I took at VHS was the one I enjoyed the most.
LaurenStudentI have my daughter enrolled at VHS and it is great to see her have the best of both worlds, completing courses at her own pace without compromising the teacher support she would have at an in person school.
DianaParentSchool is very important to me, and even if sometimes I’d rather be doing something other than school, VHS makes it interesting and easy to learn.
